News Release on Shaun Scott
Shaun Scott of Millersville placed in a tie for 5th place in the 84 kg weight category for the USA at the Henri Deglane Challenge international wrestling tournament Nov 23 in Nice, France. Scott lost a consolation finals match for a bronze medal to a competitor from Armenia. Scott, a former US national Greco-Roman wrestling team member, was the highest placing American at the 84 kg weight category. Scott had previously placed 6th (1999), 5th (2001), and a tie for 10th at the Deglane Challenge representing the US Virgin Islands. Scott, a US national team member in sombo wrestling, was also scheduled to compete for the USA in the 96 kg weight category at the FILA World Cup Sombo Championship in Nice on Nov 25, but the event was cancelled. Scott was seeking his 11th world cup sombo medal, which would have tied him with freestyle wrestler Bruce Baumgartner for the most world cup medals in any wrestling style. Scott is the current treasurer for the US Sombo Association and an athlete representative for sombo with USA Wrestling, the national governing body for international wrestling in the USA. Scott currently trains at the Mat Cat Judo and Wrestling Club of Manheim, PA.
